Checks are pieces of paper. And yet, there is an energetic quality that transcends our logical thinking brain. Just finding a blank check and sitting with the multitude of thoughts that stirred within me has shifted my being in a profound way.
You can read my initial thoughts HERE. But what I did with the check? That story is ☟here☟.
I knew I wasn't going to do anything sneaky or illegal with the check. I did shred it and dispose of it in different trashcans (and a toilet). Probably not completely necessary, but it's what I did.
I also decided to (oh! I feel nervous telling you this!) write a card to the owners of the check.
Whew! I did not expect to feel these tingles rise up! It is true that it was a bit of a risk reaching out. Why? Well, for one, they have no idea who I am and might think I'm a wack-a-do. For another, who does this?!
I guess I do. And the WHY I did it is for this reason: There is a greater connectedness to our lives, than any single person, on their own, can fully grasp. When we allow our lives to intersect and impact one another, THAT is when our fullest potential can be realized.
There is a greater connectedness to our lives, than any single person, on their own, can fully grasp. When we allow our lives to intersect and impact one another, THAT is when our fullest potential can be realized.
The letter I wrote represented just that:
"Hello! We don't know each other...but our lives have intersected. The other evening, my daughter and I were tooling around a small shopping area in Scottsdale, AZ, when a piece of folded paper, on the ground, caught my eye. It was a check. And a blank check at that. It was creased and dirty...not a just-dropped sort of look. I picked it up, totally fascinated. With 0% intention to do anything devious, I tucked it into my bag.
"As I've been holding it, it has really stirred some different awarenesses within me...What I grew up hearing about blank checks (CAUTION!), the outlandish escapades of that guy (Frank Abagnale) depicted in Catch Me If You Can, the human fear of not having enough, the human desire to know we are worthy...And so much more.
"As a Personal Growth and Transformation coach and teacher, this is the stuff I love working with: our human condition.
"What also struck me is what a blank check can symbolize in a more energetic way: limitlessness, possibility, potential. Just writing those words causes me to take a deep breath of gratitude...because what I believe is that we are connected with that which is limitless. That each of us, in our own unique ways, are full of possibility and potential...Always! Regardless of anything else (even finding a blank check in the gutter). I did shred the check and threw it away in different trash cans...but just wanted to share a bit of my experience with you.
"As random as this card may seem, it represents (for me) the mind-blowing connection of our lives - that there is this greater connectedness than any single person, on their own, can fully grasp. And when we allow our lives to intersect and impact one another, THAT is when our fullest potential can be realized.
"Thank you for the (unknown!) part you have played in my own life process, as I reframe my own childhood {false} beliefs of being poor and unworthy, into the knowing on a cellular level, that I am expansively worthy and always have more than enough of what I need.
"With gratitude and kindness for you, Rachel"
