Do you ever wonder what the heck you are doing on earth? Born on a specific day, at a specific time, into a specific family, at a specific location in the world. There must be a grand answer the grand WHY of life...Right?
Where Do We Come From and Why?
"When a mommy and daddy love each other very much..." or so begins many a where-do-babies-come-from-and-why question.
If one is adopted, the conversation might be about how much a mommy and daddy needed that specific baby, even though they couldn't birth them on their own.
IVF presents another realm of answers to where they come from and why a baby is born, as do any births that are the result of sexual violence.
There is also great talk out there about how we actually choose our parents, how we are destined to journey with them for our souls fullest expression…
It's Personal
What is true is that regardless of any of this, I really struggled to know how I fit into my family. Why was this my family, at this time, in this place? I just couldn't make sense of how - rather, IF - I really belonged.
I figured I must have been hitch-hiking down the cosmic highway, looking for a ride to earth. My parents were looking for another kid, so they pulled over and let me jump in.
I’ve wanted to understand why I arrived when, where and how I did. I thought that if I understood, maybe the rest of my life would also make sense.
The Great Existential Question: What is the Meaning of {MY} Life?
What I couldn't fully get, as a kid growing up, is that this is the great inquiry of our lives! Of ALL humans...at some point in time, in each person's own unique way.
We are all on a life-long inquiry into this question, whether or not we are consciously aware of it. Our actions, reactions, habits, aversions and desires are rooted in an accepted understanding about what our lives are all about.
As we grow and develop, we increase our capacity to be consciously aware of what drives us, of what is true or not true, of our ability to choose for ourselves, and our call to be self-responsible for the living of our own lives.
Finding the Gold Within
Our impulse is to look to wise others for what it all means. This teacher, that Guru. This sacred book, that religious tradition. As if what naturally occurs within us cannot be fully trusted, or must at least be confirmed and validated by a reputable source before we actually embrace it.
There are absolutely wise others that benefit our lives. We are supported into our fullest expression by teachers and gurus, sacred texts and traditions. These are absolutely of value as we process, integrate and live out the meaning of our lives.
AND
While there are surely answers and clarity available externally, until we turn within, we’ll just be chasing rainbows. The gold is already in your own heart.
It is more simple that anyuthentically and honestly dives deep into the inquiry ends up realizing that there is a basic and inherent goodness to each of us, to our lives. For whatever reason, we were needed right here, right now.
Each moment, day, relationship, conflict, trip around the sun, is an invitation to go deeper into your own heart and mine the gold within your own soul.
You Know The truth is within you. It always has been. From the moment - from BEFORE the moment - of your conception.
When you connect consciously and know your inner truth, keep coming back to it… over and over and over, again.
Why? Because it is part of our human condition to FORGET as quickly as we remembered. But instead of being lost in forgetting and shaming yourself for that darn human condition, forgive forgetting and celebrate remembering.
You are light. You are gold. You are good.
There is a lot of confusion + pain out there.
A lot of humans have forgotten their truth.
Our call is to remember our truth and live it out to the fullness of our capacity.
Your light, your gold, is what changes the world around you.
